Agricultural Management Systems Sample Thermal Imaging Data:
Romaine Lettuce Field

This photo shows a Romaine Lettuce field and you can see some old soil tiles that are visible from the air. In the lower left corner of the photo is an Alfalfa field. Yellow and red areas could be from salt stress due to a plugged lateral tile. The waves could also be soil arrangement, not necessarily the tiles but the formation of the soil from years of draining a particlular route through the field. Soil tiles are usually 6"- 12" deep. As the soil drains in the lateral tiles the middle area forms a salt peak for the salt to accumulate. This could be what we are seeing. Once the customer sees an image such as this, he clicks at the questionable points and is automatically given latitude/longitude coordinates that pinpoint the problem to within two meters. This allows precision investigation of the exact ground truth for limited treatment as opposed to broadcast treatment that is not warranted. This is both environmentally friendly as well as financially much more cost effective.
